Leela-therapy is a form of Talk-Therapy: a combination of psychological therapy, the Ericksonian Hypnotherapy Methods coming from Milton Erickson Psychiater, Psychologist, as well as the use of Neurolinguistics and the Enneagram. The Enneagram is used in the way Dr Claudio Naranjo psychotherapist have studied it, and the way Eli Jaxon-Bear therapist and teacher applies it to his therapy: as the Enneagram of Character Fixations.
Leela-therapy was developed by Eli Jaxon-Bear.
Who is Eli Jaxon-Bear? "After a search took him around the world and into many traditions and practices, Eli’s path and his search ended when he was pulled to India in 1990, where he met his final teacher, Papaji. Confirming Eli's realization, his teacher sent him back into the world to share his unique psychological insights into the nature of egoic suffering in support of self-realization. Eli infuses the teaching with his teacher’s living transmission of silence. He presents a unique map of egoic identification as a vehicle for ruthless self-inquiry and final realization of true freedom. He dedicates his life to passing on the transmission of his teacher."www.leela.org.
What does the name "Leela" suggest?
'Leela' is a sanskrit word which means "the divine play of consciousness". As such we experience life, when we have recognized our true nature.
Leela-therapy is not psychotherapy in today's sense, however, all the methods used here are parts of the psychotherapeutical seminars, like NLPt and the Ericksonian hypnosis. The Leela School is ACHE accredited.
'Therapy' in this context is not psychotherapy in today's sense but understood according to its etymological extraction: as "accompanying one's soul back to its origin".
How can our "soul be guided back to its origin"?
A true friend or in other words a leela guide, who is there for you with an open heart and mind, completely empty and loving supports you in your own realization of the truth that your soul is one with That origin where it comes from.
And the Leela guide is also there for you with the skillful means. This will give you your own realization of your unconscious patterns, drives and your everyday trance. You will be quided by the support of the Enneagram and Ericksonian hypnotherapy which will show where your patterns and habits come from and that all states are trance states. As soon as you recognize them you will not identify yourself with them. You are free of them as you have always been.
What are these tools or skillful means?
Enneagram: The Enneagram describes nine character fixations. Through its exact and detailed observations we get to know our unconscious drives and so we free ourselves from its grips. "The therapeutic function of the Enneagram of Personality is to identify the precise form of rigidity that we have constructed for ourselves in place of spontaneity and ‘being’. Which mask did we confuse with our real face?". Dr Claudio Naranjo Suggested site: http://www.naranjoinstitute.org.uk Suggested book: Eli Jaxon Bear, "The Enneagram of liberation"
Ericksonian Hypnotherapy: Erickson maintained that trance is a common, everyday occurrence. For example, when waiting for buses and trains, reading or listening, or even being involved in strenuous physical exercise, These states are so common and familiar that most people do not consciously recognise them as hypnotic phenomena. He developed both verbal and non-verbal techniques and pioneered the idea that the common experiences of wonderment, engrossment and confusion are, in fact, just kinds of trance. Where classical hypnosis is authoritative and direct and often encounters resistance in the subject, Erickson's approach is permissive, accommodating and indirect. For example, where a classical hypnotist might say "You are going into a trance", an Ericksonian hypnotist would be more likely to say "you can comfortably learn how to go into a trance". In this way, he provides an opportunity for the subject to accept the suggestions they are most comfortable with, at their own pace, and with an awareness of the benefits. The subject knows they are not being hustled and takes full ownership of, and participates in, their transformation. Because the induction takes place during the course of a normal conversation, Ericksonian hypnosis is often known as Covert or Conversational Hypnosis.
Citing the teacher of Leela therapy:
“Leela therapy can bring the pressure of the emotional body into peace, so that the realization of the inside can shine through.” Eli
"Leela Therapy is not ultimately involved in talking about the past or figuring out who is at fault and why, although this can be very useful at a certain stage or under certain conditions of egoic healing. Leela Therapy, as it has come to develop out of Papaji's transmission and my background in therapy, addresses the wounding of ego, not to repair it, but to point to the gaping hole of emptiness that the wound reveals and to that which is untouched by all wounding. What I have seen is that it is not how deep the client can go but how deep the therapist is. A true therapist must be awake in order to point out the way. There are two components to successful therapy: the depth of the therapist, and skillful means." Eli Jaxon-Bear, Therapy and Spirituality Article.
"Good therapy will at least heal the ego enough so that you know that a healthy ego is not enough for true happiness. Great therapy will meet you where you are and provide a context for facing everything while uncovering the true desire in every life for freedom and love. The best therapy will demonstrate the living possibility, and offer a way of stepping off into the unknown to realize the truth of who you really are." Eli
